I think It's because people are more drawn to an actual image rather than a text, it's easier for them to remember what they just read or help them understand it more.  One of the main reasons is that the images have bigger impact on people. They don't have to concentrate and think about it when they see an icon, also the colors might draw extra attention.  Icon and index are also international.  3 )  Why might global brands try and  avoid symbols  in their advertising and marketing?
