1) Type up your feedback in full (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential).
WWW: Some very good ideas here: you're clearly revised (Q1) and I really like how you've engaged with the debate in Q3.
EBI: Revise public service broadcasting.
Q3 needs more depth + detail for the top level. Planning may help with this. You definitely need to cover both sides of the argument... don't just accept media is dangerous, discuss the positives too.
2) Read the mark scheme for this assessment carefully. Identify at least one potential point that you missed out on for each question in the assessment.
1st: Synergy allows companies to maximise profit from a brand (e.g. Harry Potter) by branching
out into other platforms, merchandise or products.
2nd: BBC and Channel 4 shouldn’t produce popular programmes such as Strictly Come Dancing as
this is unfair on commercial broadcasters struggling to survive in the digital age. Instead PSB
channels should focus on programming that isn’t profitable so therefore not produced by
commercial rivals.
3rd: Judgements and conclusions regarding the application of audience effects theory
are perceptive and fully supported with detailed reference to theories and
examples.
3) On a scale of 1-10 (1 = low, 10 = high), how much revision and preparation did you do for this assessment?
I would say it was a good 5/6.
4) Look at your answer for Question 1. Did you manage to write about three different strategies and three different benefits? It's vital you read the question and follow it exactly.
Yes, I answered to all three strategies and this was a question that I got 5 out of 6 so I think this one went pretty well.
5) Look at your answer for Question 2. Did you follow the question guidance and write about both the BBC and commercial broadcasters? What could you have added to this answer to reach a higher mark?
O definitely didn't include all the parts that I was supposed to, I should've done a little more revising on the TV broadcasting.
Funding model is outdated in the digital age – licence fee of £147 a year for all BBC (and
some C4) content isn’t realistic. Young people are increasingly choosing to avoid paying the
licence fee so long-term future of funding model isn’t viable.
6) Now look over your mark, teacher comments and the mark scheme for Question 3 - the 20 mark essay question on media effects theory. Write a new paragraph for this question based on the suggested theories/answers in the mark scheme. Make sure it is an extensive, detailed paragraph focused on the question and offering examples from the wider media.
I think, over all the media has some impact on the audience and a part of it might be negative. Just like in Gerbner’s theory with 'the mean syndrome', some people might be effected over a long period of time. With that being true there's also an effect of the world around the person and their character etc. The topic of influence in media is very much debatable seeing that we can't really confirm its effect. And just like with Uses & Gratifications theory (Blumler & Katz) theory, it's the people's choice to watch certain shows or movies and play aggressive video games. That said, yes, they shouldn't have create games so violent and rank them 15+ games. I think the biggest, therefore most dangerous influence happens to younger people, but overtime the influence can be seen even in adults.
